" Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude." - Denis Waitley
Assert Yourself
What is assertiveness?
Assertiveness is about communicating our own needs, wants and feelings to others by being open and honest about what these are.
If your an assertive person :
- You can set clear boundaries, and feel entitled to defend them if they are attacked.
- You will enjoy life and have no difficulty in taking pleasure.
- You can give and receive both compliments and criticisms, learning from both.
- You can communicate clearly to others what you are feeling and what you want from them, in a calm way.
- You won't let a fear of conflict silence you and you are prepared to take the consequences of communicating your feelings and wants.
Assert yourself
Anything which improves your self-esteem will help you to be more assertive. A boost in self-esteem will automatically help you to become more assertive. If you feel better about yourself, it's likely you will feel more confident about asserting who you are and what you want, it will also allow you to be more self-confident and you will gain the respect of your friends and relatives.
Looking after yourself is essential to lifting your self-esteem. This can take the form of an occasional treat - buying yourself something or wearing something that makes you feel good, or doing something that gives you pleasure.
Boosting your self-esteem will also come from doing something you're good at and emphasizing the things that mark you out as an individual. This will help you to take pride in yourself and your abilities.
Are you assertive enough? / Can you be more assertive?
Assertiveness has a lot to do with not tolerating or putting up with something any longer.
- What are you putting up with now that you don't want to?
- Do you find yourself putting things off?
- Do you run away from difficult situations?
- Do you find yourself doing things (especially for others) you do not want to do?
If you answer "yes" to any of these questions get in touch for your free 15 minute consultation.
